Obedience Training
About Obedience
Obedience training is the foundation upon which all canine activities are based, whether conformation, agility, tracking, search & rescue, service dogs, fieldwork, etc. Obedience Trials demonstrate the usefulness of the purebred dog as a human companion and showcase dogs that have been trained and conditioned to properly behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. AKC trials and tests allow exhibitors and their dogs to enjoy companionship and competition as they proudly earn AKC titles. To learn more about obedience trials, visit AKC's Obedience Guide. |
Basic Obedience
If your dog has never been to a training class, we will show you how to teach your dog to become a companion that you and your neighbors will enjoy! Your dog will receive positive reinforcement while learning obedience and social skills.
Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Intermediate Obedience (Beginner 1)
Prerequisites: Basic Obedience class or knowledge of the following skills:, sit, down, walk on a loose leash, pay attention and follow your commands - even with other dogs nearby.
Take your basic obedience skills to the next level and master on-lead heeling, halts, fronts, finishes, recalls, sit for exam, and sit stays.
No matter if you train for yourself, or if you aim to train for competition. This class is just right to learn the fundamentals and skills needed to compete in an AKC Beginner Novice class, including an explanation of how each lesson applies to the AKC Canine Good Citizen program. Free CGC testing for class participants will be offered the week following completion of the class.
Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Advanced Obedience (Beginner 2, competitive)
Prerequisites: Intermediate Obedience (Beginner 1). In this class everyone is expected to be dedicated to training each week at home.
This is a step towards the competition ring for Obedience and Rally. You will be working on tightening up your obedience handling skills, learn the figure 8, stand/sit for exam and work on attention along with advanced stays. Emphasis will be placed on attention and learning how to work as a team to give handlers and dogs a good foundation.
Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m.
